  1. ^ Adopted for the khaki field uniform and the blue service/dress uniform in 1908, replaced in 1936–1937 by British-style ranks.

  4. ^ In 1937, the old service uniform and rank insignia for officers, based on French and Russian models, were discarded in favour of British-inspired designs.
  5. ^ Field marshal rank was re-introduced for King George II in 1939, and borne by his successors. It was only awarded once to a career officer: Alexandros Papagos (1883–1955) in 1949. The version illustrated here is that of Paul (r. 1947–1964), with the royal cypher of his brother, George II.
