Jeff Brand is an American politician and member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), he represented District 19A in south-central Minnesota from 2019 to the start of the 2021 Legislative session.

Early life, education, and career

Brand was raised in Howard Lake, Minnesota.[1] He attended the Parks Law Enforcement Academy, graduating with a certificate, graduated from Vermilion Community College, and attended Minnesota State University, Mankato, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Cultural Anthropology [2] with a minor in History.

Brand was elected a member of the St. Peter, Minnesota city council in 2011. He co-owns a rain garden installation and native plant landscaping company called Seed to Site with his wife, Genevieve. [3]

Minnesota House of Representatives

Brand was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2018. He served as Vice Chair of the Agriculture and Food Finance and Policy committee, as well a member of the Veterans and Military Affairs Finance and Policy committee, Labor Finance and Policy committee, Taxes committee, and Greater Minnesota Jobs and Economic Development Finance committee. He lost the following election in 2020 by 108 votes to Republican Susan Akland. Following her attendance of the "Storm the Capitol" rally in Saint Paul while the nation's Capitol was simultaneously being attacked by extremists, Brand became a vocal critic of Akland and publicly asked for her to resign. [4]

Brand was unanimously endorsed as the newly redistricted District 18A DFL candidate on April 9, 2022.

Personal life

Brand and his wife, Genevieve, have two children.[1] He resides in St. Peter, Minnesota.[2]
