USNS Point Loma (T-EPF-15) will be the fifteenth Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport, operated by the United States Navy's Military Sealift Command.[1] On July 16, 2021, acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Harker announced that she would be named after Point Loma, San Diego. This is the second ship named after Point Loma, with the first being Deep Submergence Support Ship USS Point Loma (AGDS-2).[2]

Beginning with USNS Cody (T-EPF-14), the Flight II configuration enhances current EPF capabilities by including health services (a combined forward resuscitative care capability with a limited Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and medical ward) to the ship while maintaining most of the original mission requirements of the ship. The medical mission is not the primary mission. The Flight II health services capability improvements support Role 2 enhanced medical care (E MTF) as defined by the Joint Publication 4-02 for Joint Health Services. Flight II EPFs will be able to provide operating rooms and complimenting ICU and ward space to stabilize postsurgical cases for evacuation without the requirement to first route them through a higher facility.[3]

Point Loma is under construction in Mobile, Alabama by Austal USA.[4]
