Train World is a railway museum in Brussels, Belgium, and the official museum of the National Railway Company of Belgium. It is situated in the preserved buildings of Schaarbeek railway station and in a new shed built to its north. Although scheduled to open in 2014, its opening was delayed until September 2015.[1][2] The Museum was solemnly opened by King Philippe.

Overview

The museum is over 8,000 square metres (86,000 sq ft) and displays 22 locomotives.[3] It also displays 1,200 other objects, including an original 19th century railway bridge. One of the most important objects in the museum is the "Pays du Waes" locomotive, dating to 1845, which is the oldest preserved locomotive in Continental Europe.[4]

The materials exhibited in the museum (Schaerbeek)

  • a Belpaire hearth boiler from an 1884 type 25 locomotive transformed into a steam generator.
  • Le Belge (replica).
  • The steam locomotive Pays de Waes "Pays de Waes" from 1845.
  • The Type 51 steam locomotive (1152) shunting steam locomotive of 1880 built by the Belgian Company for the Construction of Railway Material was written off and resold to Carbochimie Tertre.
  • The powerful steam locomotive State Railways Type 10 steam locomotive (10.018).
  • The Type 12 steam locomotive 12.004, this streamlined steam locomotive is the centerpiece of the museum.
  • The English-inspired steam locomotive Type 18 steam locomotive 18.051 built by the Saint-Léonard company.
  • The railcar for secondary lines 551.48 (known as "little Brossel").
  • The prototype line diesel locomotive 6406 (211.006) (which lost its engine).
  • The Class 15 electric locomotive 1503 polyvoltage electric locomotive.
  • An end car (pilot car) of the first type AM 35 Automotrice AM 35 electric multiple unit (1935).
  • a passenger car type GCI n°91001 (Large Intercirculation Capacity).
  • a passenger coach type M1 n°63105 (Metallic).
  • a passenger car type TEE n°135 (Trans Europe Express).
  • a German mail car travelling post office vehicle.
  • Two Belgian royal train carriages.
  • a Trans Europ Express carriage.

The Treignes railway museum also holds part of the "SNCB" collection, the material is as follows

  • The Type 1 steam locomotive (1.002). A possible return to service cannot be ruled out in the next few years!.

  • The type 53 shunting steam locomotive (5620).

The collection also includes a few locomotives in working order

  • The type 29 line steam locomotive (29.013). Under restoration since the end of 2019, it will normally be operational again for 2023 to carry out tourist routes on the SNCB.
  • The line diesel locomotive 5404 (204.004) (in service in 2022).
  • The line diesel locomotive 5512 (205.012) (in service in 2022).
  • The line diesel locomotive 6041 (210.041) (in service in 2022).
