Toril Swan (born 19 October 1945) is a Norwegian philologist.
She was born in Sandnessjøen. Following a bachelor's degree at Bates College in 1970 she graduated from the University of Oslo with the cand.philol. degree in 1978. She was appointed as an associate professor in English philology at the University of Tromsø in 1980, and defended the dr.philos. thesis in 1987. Being promoted to professor in 1990, she resided in Bergen the last ten years of her professor tenure.[1]
From 1997 to 2002 she served as the dean of Tromsø's Faculty of Humanities. She is a fellow of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters since 1997.[1]
