TBEA Co., Ltd., previously known as Tebian Electric Apparatus, is a Chinese manufacturer of power transformers and other electrical equipment, and a developer of transmission projects. Along with competitors Tianwei Baobian Electric (TWBB) and the XD Group, it is one of the major Chinese manufacturers of transformers.[1]

International operations

Equipment manufacturing

Outside of China, TBEA is also coming up with a manufacturing base for transformers, solar equipments & cables in Karjan Gujarat, India.[2] The Indian division is registered under the name TBEA Energy (India) Pvt Ltd and will cater to India, African, Middle East and other markets.

Construction engineering

The company builds transformers and also develops transmission lines as an EPC contractor.

In Ethiopia, TBEA was in 2009 awarded the contract to develop the transmission line to Addis Ababa for the Gilgel Gibe III Dam.[3]

In September 2010 in Zambia, the state power company ZESCO signed an EPC contract with TBEA to build US$334 million330 kv high voltage transmission lines, which would supply power to Eastern, Luapula, Northern and Muchinga Provinces.[4] The project held a groundbreaking in July 2012.[4] The project is to include two transmissions lines: one from Pensulo substation in Serenje to Kasama via Mpika, another transmission line from Pensulo substation to Chipata via Msoro and extension of the existing Pensulo substation to accommodate the two transmission line bays.[4]

Mining

In Tajikistan the company was granted in 2015 a mining license to develop a gold deposit in exchange for construction of a combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Dushanbe.[5] Earlier, in 2013, TBEA had received a license to conduct exploration at the deposit area.[5]

Performance in nuclear power

With less energy consumption, smaller impacts on environment and strong supply power, nuclear power has become one of the three main electricity supply sources, along with thermal power and hydro power. Nuclear power is an essential measure to realize sustainable development of society and economy, optimizing the energy structure and ensuring the energy safety and is an effective method to reduce environment pollution and realize harmonious development of economy and eco environment.In the field of nuclear power generation project construction, the transformers and wires and cables for high, medium and low voltages developed independently by TBEA have been used in several states' key projects, including Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant, Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant, Taishan Nuclear Power Plant, Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant, Shidao Bay Nuclear power plant etc. TBEA proudly supplies nearly 40% in the field of main transformer products of nuclear power.

Taishan Nuclear Power Plant, located in Chixi Town, Taishan City, Guangdong Province, China, is planned to construct six pressurized water reactor units; the technology of Generation III nuclear power EPR (advanced pressurized water reactor in Europe) was introduced for Stage I project to build up two nuclear power units with single capacity of 1.75 MW. After completion of the two units in Taishan Nuclear Power Plant, consumption of about 8.48 million tons of standard coals will be saved and 20.85 million tons of greenhouse gas emission will be reduced every year. The mode of cooperation between foreign countries and China, joint design and joint construction was used in construction of Stage I project of Taishan Nuclear Power Plant and full technology transference was achieved. In design and supply of nuclear island, the design and supply shares borne by Chinese companies were more than 50%; the domestic manufacturing degree of the main equipment for the nuclear island was up to 50%. Common design and supply of nuclear island were completed by the alliance led by China. In common production of turbo generator, the shares undertaken by Chinese parts were up to 2/3. Project management, construction, debugging and construction of production and operation of stage I project of Taishan Nuclear Power Plant were all performed by Chinese companies independently. TBEA supplied the core power transmission and transformation equipment for Taishan Nuclear Power Plant of CGNPC (2×175MW), including 700MVA 500kV transformers, etc.

August 1, 2012, Kyrgyzstan Datka-Keming 500kV T&D Project started construction. The project includes one 410 kilometers 500kV transmission line, two 500kV substations and supporting the project. TBEA has provided a system solutions for the project of survey, design, construction, installation, operation and maintenance, personnel training.

The implementation of the project is for Kyrgyzstan hydropower rejuvenating national strategy,The project is a transmission highway in air. The South of North power network have been connected after the completion of the project and built the backbone line of Kyrgyzstan power grid. This project will ensure the safety of power supply for Kyrgyzstan. The South Power historic first transported to the north, which greatly eased the serious shortage of power supply in North in winter. The Project will provide reliable power protection for economic development and social stability in North area.
