The Sukkur Airport (IATA: SKZ, ICAO: OPSK) was renamed as Begum Nusrat Bhutto International Airport Sukkur in 2012 after Begum Nusrat Bhutto (مادرجمہوریت، بیگم نصرت بھثو) the former first lady of Pakistan in 1970s.[1] It is a medium-sized airport located about 8 km (5.0 mi) from the centre of the Sukkur city, caters not only to the population of Sukkur, but also to the adjoining areas including Khairpur, Jacobabad, Sibi, Shikarpur, etc.[2] It is the main alternate of Jinnah International Airport Karachi with a distance of about 350 km (220 mi), well under an hour's flight time in turboprop aircraft.

During Hajj season every year the Hajj flights operate from Sukkur to Jeddah and Medina in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Back.[3] The first Haj flight from the Begum Nusrat Bhutto Airport, Sukkur, left for Jeddah on August 6, 2016, and remain continued until 13 August 2016.[4]

Sukkur International Airport ranks as the second main operational airport in Sindh, after Jinnah International Airport Karachi. The paved runway is about 2,700 metres long. It also handles international flights, especially in the time of emergencies and because of bad weather conditions.[citation needed]
