Solar Smash is an action and sandbox game created by Paradyme Games in January 2020. [1] The game allows players to destroy planets, exoplanets, stars, and small bodies.
Gameplay
The games features allow the player to choose different mechanics on destroying planets in our Solar System, Proxima Centauri system, TRAPPIST-1 system, Tau Ceti system, and Unknown System, a classification dedicated to categorizing secret planets that can only be unlocked by completing specific in-game tasks. The game offers two sandbox modes: Planet Smash, allowing users to closely examine and destroy individual planets, and System Smash, enabling users to explore and interact with entire solar systems within a model representation.
In the Planet Smash mode, players can select their desired weapon from a user interface (UI) displaying various weapons along the side of the screen. Once a weapon is chosen, players can click on the planet and select the specific location they wish to target. The selected weapon will then carry out its designated task on the chosen location.
In System Smash mode, players are presented with a 3D model representing the Solar System. Players have the option to select another solar system to target, including choices such as the Proxima Centauri system, TRAPPIST-1 system, and Tau Ceti system. Players still have access to a UI on the side of the screen. This UI enables players to click on planets or different objects within the chosen system and initiate actions such as destroying them.
Reception
The game has been rated 4.8 on the Apple App Store, 4.6 on Google Play. [1][2]
Popularity
The game gained popularity after its release, being covered by many YouTubers. According to Social Blade, the topic has garnered tens of millions of views on YouTube. [3]
Solar Smash 2D
In 2023, Paradyme Games launched a spinoff game based on Solar Smash, transforming it into a 2D format while introducing additional features focused on space warfare. The game received an average reception on various app stores. [4][5]
