Parachromis dovii, the guapote, rainbow bass, or wolf cichlid, is a species of cichlid native to Central America where it occurs on the slopes of Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. It grows to a length of 72 cm (28.3 in) TL, and it is important to local commercial fisheries and is sought after as a gamefish.[1]
Etymology
The fish is named in honor of John Melmoth Dow (1827-1892) of the Panama Railroad Company. As a ship captain and amateur naturalist, he collected the type specimen.[2]
Conservation
It occurs in the Maquenque National Wildlife Refuge.[3]
