Yearc. 1898

Mother and Child (The Oval Mirror) is a painting by Mary Cassatt. It was painted in 1898.[1] The Havemeyers purchased the painting[2] from dealer Duand-Ruel[1] in 1899.[3] It was given by the Havermeyer family in 1929 to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.[4]

The work depicts a mother and child, drawing from the iconography of "Mary and child" religious imagery.[5][6]
