John Horton (rugby union)

John Philip Horton (born (1951-04-11) 11 April 1951 (age 72))[1] is a retired English rugby union player. Horton played 13 matches for England between 1978 and 1984, scoring 12 points.[1] He played club rugby for Bath, making 380 appearances for the club between 1973 and 1985, and also played for Bristol.[2]

Mercurial playmaker John Horton joined from Sale when he moved to Bath for teaching work.

He made his debut against Terenure in 1973 and was captain in 1976-77 and 1979-80.

Horton scored 80 tries and a remarkable 125 drop goals during his Bath career. He won 13 caps for England and left for Bristol when Stuart Barnes joined from the West Country rivals in 1985.

The toughest and easiest pools Bath Rugby could get in the European Champions Cup draw Horton was invited back to make two guest appearances in 1988, against Bedford and Public School Wanderers.
