Jeffrey Todd Arnold is an American Internet entrepreneur and executive. Currently, he is Chairman and CEO of Sharecare, a health and wellness engagement platform that provides users with personal health tools.[1]

Professional career

In 1998, Arnold founded WebMD,[2] a health care company that provides consumers, health institutions, and physicians with medical information through the Internet.

After leaving WebMD, Arnold started a number of companies. In 2001, he formed The Convex Group,[3] a vulture fund.[4][5] A year later, Convex acquired HowStuffWorks, an online how-to resource.[6] Arnold served as chairman and CEO.[7]

In 2003, Arnold started LidRock, which produced promotional miniature CDs attached to the lids of fountain drinks sold at select businesses.[8][9][10] LidRock CDs were placed in between two lids, with the top one peeled away to obtain the disc.[11] Arnold purchased 19 patents from various companies in order to produce the LidRock concept.[3][8][9] The CDs were typically sold at fast-food restaurants and movie theaters,[12][9][10] and generally were used to promote new video games or music from singers such as Britney Spears.[9][13][14] More than 10 million LidRocks had been sold as of 2004,[11] and more than 30 million as of 2005.[15]

In 2004, Arnold purchased Flexplay, a Los Angeles-based company, along with its patents for disposable DVDs.[16][17]

In 2007, he sold HowStuffWorks to Discovery Communications, where he worked as Chief Digital Strategy Officer.[7]

Arnold co-founded Sharecare in 2010 with Dr. Mehmet Oz in partnership with Harpo Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and Discovery Communications. Since co-founding Sharecare, he has acquired 11 companies, including RealAge[18] and PKC[19] in 2012, BACTES[20] in 2013, and HealthWays and BioLucid [21] in 2016.

Arnold is currently the Chairman of Forbes Travel Guide[22] (formerly Mobil Travel Guide).
