Frederic Scheer is a French-American entrepreneur and inventor. He is the founder of multiple companies, including Interpart, Biodegradable Products Institute, Cereplast, Biocorp, and Alercell.[1][2][3][4][5][6] He has 15 US patents under his name in biotechnology.[7]

Early life and education

Scheer was born in Paris, France. He holds an MBA from Institut D’Etudes Politiques de Paris (1978) and doctorate in law from the University of Paris.[7][8][9]

Career

Scheer moved to the US in 1986 and became the youngest CFO of a NYSE company. He has participated in the restructuring of Montedison in Italy, a $23 billion oil and chemical group.[1][10][11][12]

He was the co-CEO and founder of Interpart SA (1983-1988) and the co-CEO of the Cannon Group (1987-1988).[13][14]

Scheer became involved in the biodegradable plastics industry in 1994 through Montedison SpA, a chemical conglomerate operating Novamont SpA, Scheer secured exclusive distribution rights in North America of Mater-Bi resins. Scheer terminated his distribution rights with Novamont in early 2000 to work on new resins patented by Cereplast.[15][16]

In 1997, Scheer founded the science-driven organization, Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) and remained its CEO until 2010.[17][18]

In 2001, he founded Cereplast, and held the position of CEO until 2014, a company that designs and makes sustainable plastics from the starch found in tapioca, corn, wheat, and potatoes.[19][20][21][22] Scheer was the supplier of all compostables bags and compostable utensils used by the 2000 Summer Olympics held in Sydney.[23] He was the CEO of Biocorp and the Chairman of the Bioplastics Council of the Society of the Plastics Industry.[24]

In 2017, Scheer founded L6NRG, an independent oil and gas company concentrating on US-based oil and gas from the Rockies, where he is currently the CEO and Chairman.[8][25][26]

Since 2020, he has been the founder and CEO of Alercell, a biotechnology company specializing in delivering innovative in vitro rapid diagnostic tests.[7][27][28][29]
