English: From turbine to line shaft at Suffolk Mills in Lowell, Massachusetts.
This is part of the River Transformed Exhibit. Water from the nearby canal enters a turbine pit. The turbine speed is controlled by flyball governor. When turbine runs at an excessive speed, the governor will lower the ring collar to limit the water entering the turbine to slow its speed. The turbine drives a belt and pulley system that transfers the energy to the line shaft. |
