David Lanre Messan (born 4 March 1983), is a Nigerian entrepreneur, Founder and CEO of FirstFounders,[1] James Currey Society Scholar, and 2015 Curator of Lagos Global Shaper of the World Economic Forum.[2][3]

Life

Messan was born in Isolo, Lagos State on 4 March 1983 to Addi Anthony Messan (father) and Janet Glohoun (mother) who were both of Nigerian and Togolese ancestry.[4] He started his educational journey at Mushin High School where he obtained his secondary school certificate(SSCE) and then proceeded to Lagos State Polytechnic to study Mass Communication. He read Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Scalabl Global Academy and Disruptive Strategy from Harvard Business School and has a diploma in Marketing Strategy from Nexford University.[5]

He recently became a James Currey Society Scholar after he was selected to be a part of the program. The James Currey Society in cooperation with the University of Oxford African Studies Centre founded by Onyeka Nwelue and is a non-profit organization for James Currey.

Career

In 2006 at the age of 23, he made his first millions as an entrepreneur[6] through his Infinite Impact Company; an ideas portfolio management firm and started Green Yaggy in 2007, an initiative that helped grassroot youths in Nigeria to get entrepreneurship skills.[7] Through the initiative, he directly impacted the lives of over 250 youths, a feat that earned him a spot at the African Business Leaders Forum (ABLF) 101 Young African Leaders 2007.

In 2008, he won the LEAP Africa Nokia Top 10 Youth Leadership Award and went on to make other impressive achievements including being selected as a pioneer global shaper of the World Economic Forum for which he later became the community’s curator in Lagos. Thus became a pioneer global shaper of the World Economic Forum and later became the community’s curator in Lagos.[8][9] He has also worked as Head of Marketing and Communications for both Universal Anchor Limited and Maku Sports group [10] and was appointed communications consultant to the Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre where he developed case studies for civil servants' work patterns for use by the Lagos State Government led by Babatunde Raji Fashola.[11] He has spoken in over 200 workshops and over 50 conferences, including TEDx FUNAAB, SHAPE Africa, and Grow Africa Forum, on important social and economic topics.

Lanre served as an international partner, and later a senator for Nigeria with the World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF), Turkey.[12] And has helped the growth of over 250 businesses and startups in Nigeria. But he is more active at his company, FirstFounders Inc, which he founded in 2020. In March 2022, in partnership with CrossFund, FirstFounders assisted a FinTech company - Syarpa to close a successful seed round of $500,000.[13]
