Darwinbus is a public bus network which operates in Darwin and Palmerston in the Northern Territory.[1] The network is solely operated by CDC Northern Territory under a six-year contract with the Northern Territory Government starting from 1 July 2022.[2] Prior to this, the network was operated under two contracts, one by Buslink (previous name of CDC Northern Territory), and the other by Territory Transit.[1][3] The Northern Territory Government then combined both contracts, and in May 2022, announced Buslink as the successful bidder after a competitive tender between the two incumbents.[4][5]
Prior to 2014, the services operated by Territory Transit were operated by the government-owned Darwin Bus Service.[6] In December 2013, it was announced that Darwin Bus Service services would be privatised.[7][8] In July 2014, Transit Systems (owner of Territory Transit) was announced as the successful tenderer.[9][10][11] In October 2014, Territory Transit took over the former Darwin Bus Service bus operation.[12][13]
Fleet
As of May 2014, the Buslink fleet consisted of 145 buses,[14] and the former Darwin Bus Service fleet consisted of 36 buses.[15]
