Darnell Ernest Washington (born August 17, 2001) is an American football tight end for the Georgia Bulldogs.
High school career
Washington attended Desert Pines High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a two-sport athlete playing football and basketball.[1] Washington received offers from SEC schools such as Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee.[2] He was a highly rated recruit in the 2020 recruiting class. Washington was listed as a five-star recruit, and he committed to play college football for the University of Georgia.[3]
College career
As a true freshman at Georgia, Darnell would record 166 yards on seven receptions.[4]
In Washington's second season he put up 145 yards on nine receptions and scored one touchdown. This touchdown was the first of Washington's career and it came in the SEC Championship Game against Alabama.[5] Washington's longest gain of the season came on a 32 yard reception against Florida. He appeared in seven games and missed time due to having to have surgery for a minor fracture in his foot.[6][7][8]In the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, Georgia defeated Alabama 31-18.[9]
Entering his junior year, Washington's draft stock would rise.[7] In addition, he would be named to the preseason John Mackey Award watch list.[10][11]
