The Cumberland University Sports Hall of Fame consists of individuals who have achieved excellence in athletics by either competing, coaching, or contributing in other ways. Members include those who only made an athletic impact at the university, such as volleyball player and coach Kathy Palk Slaughter and coach/contributor Mitch Walters, as well as others who went on to greater athletic notoriety at other institutions, such as Coastal Carolina University men's basketball coach Cliff Ellis and Winthrop University women's basketball coach Bud Childers.[1] Still others, such as Allison B. Humphreys Jr. and Cale Young Rice, are remembered today for their non-athletic contributions.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Cumberland University Sports Hall of Fame, individuals have to meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Students have to earn at least one varsity letter for intercollegiate sports and cannot be considered until five years after the completion of their intercollegiate athletic career.
  2. Coaches are to "have advanced and enhanced the concept of athletics" at the university.
  3. Individuals who are not students or coaches are considered if they "contributed to the advancement of athletics" at the university.[2]

No more than five athletes and one coach may enter the Hall of Fame each year.[2]

Hall membership can be revoked for any member convicted of a felony.[2]
