Batyr Atdaev is the incumbent Prosecutor General of Turkmenistan and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers for Trade, Textile Industry, and Entrepreneurship.

Early life

Atdaev graduated from the Law Faculty of the Turkmen State University in early 1990s.[1][2]

Career

In February 2016, Atdaev was appointed Deputy Chairperson of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers and tasked with overseeing commercial trade and foreign economic relations.[3][2] He was also the ex-officio Deputy Prime Minister.[4]

On 13 May 2017, he was appointed by President Berdimuhamedow as the new Prosecutor General, replacing Amanmyrat Khallyyev.[3][a] On 5 November 2021, he was publicly reprimanded by Berdimuhamedow for "improper performance of official duties and weakening of prosecutorial supervision over the activities of the oil and gas complex."[6]

On 4 June 2022 he was reappointed to the Cabinet of Ministers as Deputy Chairman for Trade, Textile Industry, and Entrepreneurship.[7][8]

Notes

  1. ^ Khallyyev was dismissed on 4 May, on grounds of bribery and mismanagement.[3][5]
