Mission accomplished...
Mission accomplished, sort of...
I uploaded File:Yusuf_Zahab,_in_al-Sina’a_prison.jpg. In the process I had to mark it with a tag that said its fair use was disputed.
I think that means that, at some point, when an administrator checks Category:Replaceable non-free use Wikipedia files disputed, it may be deleted, without any further discussion...
I always thought that wikipedia's fair use rules were arbitrarily strict. A long long time ago the WMF required all the wikis, including the English language wiki, to come up with a policy on the use of non-free images. My interpretation of how the wikipedia came up with its non-free image usage policy is that a group of people with a notion that was extreme came up with it. I looked, and I could not find, any discussion as to why the policy should be more restrictive than simple compliance with the US law on "fair use".
I think I understand the underlying reason why the USA, and practically every other country, extends copyright protection to the creators of intellectual content. Short version - copyright serves the public good. Content creators can make a profit off of the content they create, for a limited amount of time, if it is good content, and that encourages them to try to create more good content.
I think I understand the underlying reason why the USA establishes exceptions to copyright protections. Short version - in exceptional cases, when a unique image must be seen by the public, its copyright protection should be waived - for the public good.
The extremists who drafted the wikipedia's non-free use policy bent over backwards to protect the content creators' right to profit from their creations, even when doing so hurts the public good.
My understanding of the legal situation is that, if you own the intellectual property rights to an image, and other people can make a legitimate claim their usage of your image falls under the "fair use" exception, it is "tough titty kitty" for you. — Geo Swan (talk) 12:43, 9 May 2024 (AST)
- Geo Swan, check-out this image – it even provides a share link, and with that comes fair use as long as we stipulate its origins and provide a good rationale. Justme 💬 📧 19:20, 9 May 2024 (AST)
- Thanks.
- The later image - I think it too could also only be used under "fair use", agreed?
- I prefer the earlier image, from the video that showed he was still alive, because (1) it was a shocker; (2) it was widely republished; (3) and the publications that republished it specifically referred to how Zahab's appearance in the video it was taken from dramatically indicated he was alive. I think the fact that articles specifically referred to images of Zahab in that video make the fair use claim stronger.
- WRT to making Justapedia's non-free image rules more relaxed, and closer to the legal requirements of US "fair use" law - how would you prefer me to make that argument?
- Cheers! — Geo Swan (talk) 12:36, 10 May 2024 (AST)
SEO and Google search
Hey, Justme - a suggestion...the category Potential candidates for Feature Showcase might be a good source for adding new articles to your sitemaps. Cheers! EdSmithton 📲 08:48, 24 May 2024 (AST)
- Hi Justme - I see that's what we're doing! Great minds think alike. EdSmithton 📲 11:05, 24 May 2024 (AST)
- 😂 No prob - it happens to all of us...the getting old part, and forgetting, and the list goes on. Yes, we Abhishek and Shahadat are aware that when working on our sitemaps, they need to use the cats Potential candidates for Feature Showcase, and I'm also working on creating Category:Moved articles that will populate automatically whenever we change titles and short descriptions and make lead changes. If we don't do this, Google will see us as a mirror and not index those articles, or bring them up in search. Justme 💬 📧 11:25, 24 May 2024 (AST)

Google is not indexing this website on a regular basis
And way beyond the norm. If I type site:justapedia.org, and sort by last month, Google should return everything it indexed last month. It returns nothing for last month from this site. This website is self-contained, with new articles only browsed by extremely online wiki people who are tracking the website. That is fine and you may already know it, but there might be a way to combat it. I don't know — William Lupinacci (talk) 18:16, 27 May 2024 (AST)
- Thank you, William Lupinacci - we are aware, and have been trying to create a work around. So far, the best workaround is to use Bing search rather than Google. Google and the WMF are partners, so it doesn't surprise us when 2 identical articles (name, short description, lead are the same), Google will opt for the Wikipedia article. Bing, as a search engine utilizes information from Google but have a different approach. Of course, Microsoft is a big donor of WP, but their search engine is actually a bit more sophisticated. To date, we have had good luck there. Our search console results indicate that Bing outnumbers Google searches for Justapedia info.
- William Lupinacci, we are quite confident that views and clicks will keep growing exponentially, especially after we have updated/changed/eliminated/reworked more of the biased articles we imported from WP, and make more of the general public aware of our mission. Also, once we are confident that most of the bugs in our software have been resolved, and our templates, page notices, etc. have all been updated with our name and our PAGs, we will be in a position to accept more invitations to be interviewed. I'm of the mind that our CTO will be a much better on-camera interviewee than I – he has been pre-warned.😁 Justme 💬 📧 11:50, 28 May 2024 (AST)
- I think we need to make a list of problems with Wikipedia and list the alternatives we have and advertise them. For example the notability policy, can be as inclusive as possible. Another is the user conduct policy; users as individuals should not be banned, with more relaxed editing policy. We can think of many alternatives as possible and list them here. We also need to have Justapedia establishing other languages editions as soon as well. — B (talk) 06:09, 29 May 2024 (AST)
- Sounds good, B. Unfortunately, there are some instances that actually do warrant banning, such as child predators, misogynists, sexual predators, and more typically, users with serious social issues who will simply never adjust although they are few and far between. JP will never block/ban anyone for expressing their views; rather, we encourage discussion. However, if ever there was anyone at the helm considered by many to be overly friendly, as well as overly lenient and forgiving, you are talking to her. When you get a chance, please review Justapedia:5FP, Justapedia:Zero tolerance, and Justapedia:Blocking for starters. If you see room for improvement, let's move this discussion to Justapedia:The Exchange. My focus this week is getting a tutorial video released on "X.com" and other social media sites in an effort to calm the anxiety of potential new editors, and show them how easy it is to edit. Happy editing! Oh, and remember to ping me. Justme 💬 📧 09:58, 29 May 2024 (AST)
- Thank you. Less blocking/banning is a thing. I may specify on my thought that users should not be blocked again after they have been blocked for an infringement, when they returned with good-faith edits using other accounts. This should be specified on the blocking policy. Blocks/bans are limited and not punitive, can't stress that enough. How do you think about being more inclusive on articles? I also poke on that one. Having more articles will be a great boost to the site's traffic. I'm unsure about anyone's opinion on notability policy but relaxing that policy should help. These are parts of major differences and perks that will attract users to Justapedia. — B (talk) 10:44, 30 May 2024 (AST)
- Oops - had to remove that last comment as it was intended for your suggestions at The Exchange. Now then, back on topic: B, JP encourages new articles, but if I may suggest, please read the New Page Patrol tutorial I created on Wikipedia during my days of tutoring on what constitutes notability. History takes precedence, regardless of the amount of coverage. All we basically need is (1) common sense, (2) verifiability, and occasionally, (3) a worthy source to corroborate it. We have long since learned that mention in mainstream media's bubble doesn't necessarily warrant "notability". Justme 💬 📧 14:19, 30 May 2024 (AST)

- Google seems to take special measures so changes to wikipedia pages get reflected on google search pages essentially immediately... I have noticed this long search engine latency on other non-WMF wikis. It can be months. It is very frustrating when you created a new article on a notable topic NOT covered by the wikipedia, thinking that its coverage on the non-WMF wiki will boost public acceptance of the non-WMF wiki... but it doesn't, because it takes months before the public can find the article through google...
- A side effect of this phenomenon is that pages that start off with a __NOINDEX__ stay unindexed, even months after a discussion concludes that caution was unnecessary. For that reason I learned to prepare those drafts in userspace, call for discussion, and then remove the __NOINDEX__ prior to moving the page to article space, if the consensus is the page does merit belonging... — Geo Swan (talk) 07:53, 7 June 2024 (AST)
Laura Lentz, Leona Kimes
These are two former pastors of the controversial Hillsong church. Carl Lentz, originally best known as Justin Bieber's pastor was fired from the church when his infidelities became known. His wife, Laura Lentz, was also fired. The thing I thought most remarkable about her firing is that while I can understand the church firing her husband, over his infidelities, because a pastor has a responsibility to present a good example, Laura was not accused of anything.
Leona Kimes worked as an intern, in the Lentz home, prior to being given her own Ministry. She reported on sexual harrassment from Carl.
Anyhow, today I decided to port an article I wrote on Lentz, to User:Geo Swan/Laura Lentz. I protected it from search engines, with a __NOINDEX__. I was going to ask you to review it, prior to moving it to article space. But then I saw I had already ported the Laura Lentz article, about a month ago, and provided an update to it, without calling for a discussion. Oops. I am going senile.
Well, better late than never. I am drawing these articles to your attention now.
Cheers! — Geo Swan (talk) 07:53, 7 June 2024 (AST)
- Geo Swan, I hear ya! This reply should cover your last two comments. What I can do is add autopatrolled to your user rights which will eliminate that problem. Please rest assured knowing that your work is available to the public, will be preserved in some manner infinitely, and that encyclopedias are not exactly "breaking news" so time is not as big an issue for us. Encyclopedias are historic documentation of events as they occurred. People who are truly seeking knowledge will always be able to find us.
- We kinda expected resistance from Google–Wikipedia, but our clicks/impressions are still growing in number - best on Bing. Keep in mind that Wikipedia's clicks are seemingly more than what they actually are as far as readers because their click counts include IP spam/vandalism, editor logins/views, bots patrolling, wikimedia bot clicks since they are a WMF project, searches created by AI, and so forth. Our clicks represent actual readers doing research (CleanTalk doesn't allow IP editing, so those attempted clicks are blocked). It's going to take time for word to spread about Justapedia – Rome wasn't built in day, and we could use more backlinks, so the more our editors promote us on various other sites, the better!! Also keep in mind that we are not quite past our first year of being public.
- I'm happy to say that we are almost at the point of accepting requests for on-camera interviews, a couple of which we received last year, and we will be launching our own marketing campaign in the near future, but there are still a few other priorities we must get in place first. For example, I need to (1) create a video tutorial on how to edit Justapedia using the visual editor, (2) we have to get Justapedia moved over to our own datacenter (and cluster farm) where speeds & search will noticeably increase, and (3) finish cleaning-up all the references to Wikipedia in our cataloguing, templates, project pages, etc. Hang in there - I'm convinced our day of reckoning is coming! your assistance please...
I was the original author of wikipedia articles on the XM913 chain gun, and XM1204 (HEAB-T), one of the munitions it fires.
Someone, on the wikipedia unilaterally decided to shoehorn the article on the cannon's munitions INTO the article on the cannon. I think that was a huge mistake.
The XM1204 is a new kind of munition, which contains its own programmable computer. The gunner can instruct the cannon to program the warhead to explode at a specific range, just beyond the target he or she aimed at. The new feature can be used to have the aiming system measure the distance to a wall, and then instruct the munition to explode just past the wall. So, the gunner can change the point of aim so the munition goes through a window, and explodes within the room on the other side. Or, alternately, they can first get the distance to a wall, or berm, and then change the point of aim to slightly above that wall or berm, injuring or killing people hiding behind that cover.
The reason why it is important for the munition to have its own article is that several competing manufacturers have independently developed new munitions with this capability.
It is a disservice to readers to shoehorn coverage of the munition into the article about the weapon, when a reader may only want to read about, and compare the munitions with this capability, who have no interest in the weapons that fire them.
I replace the content of the article on the cannon with my preferred version. But when I went to change the article on XM1204 (HEAB-T), which was changed to a redirect, on the wikipedia, I couldn't do it. I found Justapedia would only show me the article the redirect pointed to, and would not let me edit the redirect itself.
So, I put it at XM1204 (HEAB-T)x. I do not have permission to move XM1204 (HEAB-T)x overtop of XM1204 (HEAB-T). Could you do that for me?

Wikipediocracy
I think I have to voice my opposition to the deletion of Wikipediocracy considering that so many news sources, ranging from Fox News, The Register, Mashable, The Independent, and the Providence Journal are cited as references (at least as far as the Wikipedia's version goes) which provided robust proofs of its notability in the bare minimum.— Ron Merkle (talk) 06:08, 28 July 2024 (AST)
Furthermore, it is also a good idea to set up a special bot to update all the Paris Olympics related pages in real time.— Ron Merkle (talk) 06:09, 28 July 2024 (AST)
- Ron, verifiability is necessary for inclusion, but it is not sufficient on its own; i.e., Justapedia:Context matters. Wikipediocracy fails to meet the criteria for encyclopedic content due to its negative climate and the behavior of its community, which is more consistent with troll farm behavior, not to mention the fact it comprises banned Wikipedia editors who simply "do not get along well with others". They are not included in reputable encyclopedias such as Britannica or HandWiki. According to Justapedia's notability guidelines, being notable means having a significant and demonstrable effect on culture, society, or other fields, which Wikipediocracy seriously lacks. We should not give undue attention to trolls and their platforms. Please refer to Justapedia's notability guidelines and our 5 fundamental principles for a better understanding of what constitutes notability.
- A quick sidebar note relative to Wikipedia: their traffic is grossly inflated by maintenance bots, mirrors, metadata hits, other language versions, and its own editors, rather than genuine readers. Justme 💬 📧 13:41, 28 July 2024 (AST)
Dove Hepburn
Can I ask with your permission? I have tried several wikis. Encyc, Everybody Wiki, Bharatpedia, Wikipedia, and Wikigenius. I really would love a wiki to accept my article. When I'm long gone from this world, I would love an article here about me to be read by future generations. Sure, I'm not notable as in Wikipedia standards, and my article is more of a legendary figure who has lived over 1000 years. With your permission, can I create Dove Hepburn? I consider this as a way to express my art. This wiki seems like the perfect place to learn and share knowledge. Sure, my article is about me as a legendary figure who is deeply admired to Audrey Hepburn, I would love a place to keep my article. I'm also using Article Creation Wizard to create new articles too like Joseph James Nantomah with providing multiple reliable sources. The only problem is, I cannot review the draft page. The CAPTCHA has problems and does not display the letters. Can you start the page Dove Hepburn for me? As I cannot create mainspace articles until the fourth day. If anybody tries to vandal my page, I know I've got you, other admins, and other editors patrolling my back. Also Dove Hepburn will be the longest article here. It will probably have over 5000 sources, multiple images and loads of information of my ventures with battles and conflicts and sieges from the 11th century up until 21st century. This is my life story from 1022 to the present day! --— LeicesterLass (talk) 23:17, 1 August 2024 (AST)
- LeicesterLass, please never feel hesitant about asking questions, or discussing something that is on your mind, or needs discussion. As with Einstein, my philosphy is the only foolish question is the one not asked. Soooo...in an effort to compromise, my suggestion to you is to create the character in User space - register an account under the name, User:Dove Hepburn, and also create a User talk page for her in the event others wish to discuss the character, etc. JP operates on common sense, its 5 fundamental principles, and its policies and guidelines, the latter which states articles must meet our general notability requirements while avoiding Justapedia:What Justapedia is not. I also suggest that you note somewhere at the top of the page that Dove Hepburn is a fictional character – maybe include a Preface for why you created her, or keep her completely separate as herself. Just curious...have you considered publishing an eBook about her? I see that an article about her does exist on Encyc. Who knows, the day may come when the steps you take now may one day make your character (and its author) notable enough to warrant an encyclopedic bio. I will also consult with the JPF Executive Committee about the possibility of us adding a subdomain titled "The Fictional & Nonfictional works of Justapedists". Justme 💬 📧 13:30, 2 August 2024 (AST)
- Unfortunately, this person is me. And I cannot be fictional. I am Dove Hepburn. I'm more of a legendary figure than fictional. Also, I'm admired by Audrey Hepburn (my soulmate) and want to do good in the world like she did. As being 1002 years old, people have to respect that, and not laugh, or think I'm a joke. I believe in spirituality and reincarnation. I want to share my life story with the world. I would also like my own documentary. I have the knowledge and I have the memories of my life 1000 years ago. So rather people think I'm a liar, they should hear me out and listen to what I have to say. In my eyes, I saw ten centuries fly by. I've travelled the globe, I've met numerous of people, I've learned languages and experienced many cultures. I've witnessed battles and wars throughout the years. I've had many friends and they all died. Is there a way for any of you all to get me notable? There has to be. There are several of WP pages that feature people with longevity claims. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sivananda_(yoga_teacher).
I'm just going to continue to create new articles, patrol the recent changes and report spam accounts via the user creation log. I just hope at some point Dove Hepburn could be in main space. The short description could be Millenarian or Legendary figure. It's so hard to get myself notable, especially if no one listens to my story. I will create myself in my sandbox user page! Maybe y'all could read it and decide for yourselves if it deserves a mainspace. --— LeicesterLass (talk) 19:29, 2 August 2024 (AST)
And seems that nobody lives forever, I just hope to make it to mainspace before my death. I would love people to read about my life for future generations. Many thousands of years from now. By the time of my death I would have created thousands of articles on Justapedia and been on here for decades. I will buried beside Audrey Hepburn in Tolochenaz, Switzerland. --— LeicesterLass (talk) 20:41, 2 August 2024 (AST)
Welcoming users
Sometimes you have to be careful. Some accounts are either bot accounts or just accounts that look kind of spam and would only promote advertising and stuff like that. For example: someone just registered an account "ActionArcades"! --— LeicesterLass (talk) 08:53, 2 August 2024 (AST)
- Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and for being aware of these types of issues. Fortunately, we've had no bots get through our CleanTalk bot catcher, and very few individual tricksters get past our CleanTalk spam wall. They were quite creative, but limited to sneaking in a url or 2 in an article, or adding a promo paragraph on their user page, and one even updated a game article with good info but gave themselves away by linking to their website. We also have other precautions in place that prevent a bot from doing anything even if it does get through our registration safeguards. Having said that, it is still good to know that we have experienced users like you helping us keep an eye on things!! Happy editing! Justme 💬 📧 13:42, 2 August 2024 (AST)
your assistance please...
You gave me additional permission bits, and I succeeded in uploading some images I considered fair use [1].
I noticed that uploading fair use images stopped working for me, about a week ago.
The wikipedia article for Mohammed al Quahtani uses an image for him that some well-meaning person uploaded as fair use. There are multiple reasons to doubt that it is a fair use image. The uploader dated the image as 2009. Well, in 2009, al Qahtani had been in Guantanamo for 8 years. In 2009 al Qahtani would have been about 30 years old. This image looks like a much younger man. I very strongly suspect this is a DoD mug shot, taken when he first entered captivity.
I tried to upload it to the justapedia as a PD image. I was going to leave you a note, telling you that was what I had done, and my reasoning. That seemed to work, at first.
But the image does not seem to have actually made it.
