The Worst Ones (French: Les Pires) is a 2022 French drama film directed by Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret.

Premise

Belgian director Gabriel is shooting Pissing in the North Wind, a movie about an impoverished pregnant teenager and her younger brother. Wanting to use non-professional child actors, he has cast local residents from a working-class town. However, people in the neighborhood say he is only interested in the most troubled children. As they shoot the film, the process exploits the actors' personal problems in different ways.

Production

Akoka and Gueret had previously made a short film, Chasse Royale, dealing with the practice of film casting. After that, they decided to create a story about film production.[1]

Release

The Worst Ones premiered 22 May at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Prix Un Certain Regard.[2]

Reception

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an approval rating of 100% based on 7 reviews, with an average rating of 7/10.[3]
