In 2016, Rathee earned online visibility after he "debunked" YouTuber Ajay Sehrawat's claims of Arvind Kejriwal's "ineffective" administration. Rathee said, "When I saw people sharing Ajay Sehrawat’s videos without checking the facts, I realized the need to present actual research in front of them so that they understand the truth."[8] His political analysis encompasses of national issues, while being critical of the fake news in the name of the Hindutva politics.[9][10]

Rathee released videos on his YouTube channel covering various topics including 2016 Uri attack, 2016 Indian Line of Control strike, 2016 Indian banknote demonetisation and Gurmehar Kaur row. He launched Pee News, a satire "fake news" segment. He started a series called The Dhruv Rathee Show (now discontinued) on his YouTube in which he continued to be critical of the government.[8] From 2017 to early 2020, he wrote opinion columns for ThePrint.[11]

His videos cover a wide range of topics such as personal finance, environmentalism, geopolitics, history, society, philosophy, video biographies, current affairs and ground reports.[12][13][14]

In July 2020, Rathee started another YouTube channel named Dhruv Rathee Vlogs where he publishes his international travel vlogs hosted by himself along with his longtime girlfriend Juli Lbr, whom he married in the later part of 2021.[15][16] He hosts shows such as DW Travel of Deutsche Welle,[17] Decode with Dhruv of Netflix India;[18] and a Spotify-exclusive podcast called Maha Bharat with Dhruv Rathee.[19] He had been seen several times criticizing and comparing BJP democratically chosen government to Hitler rule.[20][21][22]
