Reporting issues

I'd prefer to just report issues here. This is the usual place for average users to report technical issues on Wikipedia.

I've no interest in using something like PivotalTracker. Phabricator is something I tolerate because I have to.

I don't understand why you would want to import this page from Wikipedia. Just start fresh with a page for Justapedia issues. No need for carrying Wikipedia baggage over to this site to discuss it or try to fix it.

There is a Lua error in Module:Effective_protection_level at line 52: attempt to index field 'TitleBlacklist' at the top of this page.

I can tell you which line in the code is generating the error but can't quickly say how to fix it.

Becoming more proficient in Lua has been on my to-do list for years and I never seem to be able to find time for that because new projects keep coming onto my to-do list faster than I can finish the old ones. Just an editor (talk) 14:44, 16 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for your report, @Just an editor:. We do want to get rid of a lot of Wikipedia's inside baseball, and we are in the process of figuring out what to keep and what to remove. Hence the presence of this page as imported. I'll be monitoring it as you prefer to report issues this way. — Werkmeister (talk) 09:52, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Issue resolved. — Werkmeister (talk) 11:35, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
@Just an editor and Werkmeister: Pivotal is an essential bug tracker solution. All collaborative open source projects use a development collaboration tool. The WMF uses Phabricator (developed by Facebook), which is the home of all WikiMedia devs as well as WP specific bugs and feature requests. Average Justapedia editors will not be expected to post at Pivotal, indeed, they won't need to have access to it. For small teams Pivotal is much easier to use than Phabricator and is monitored by Justapedia Foundation approved devs, maintenance editors, and employees approved by the Justapedia Foundation.
The whole principle of Justapedia is definitely not to import WP's redundant baggage. Here we are doing just the opposite, and we are creating only a handful of coherent, well linked, easy to use forums and help pages instead of the jungle of 70 or more 'noticeboards' of so many, overlapping kinds and 1,000s of guidelines . that have grown organically on other collaborative websites due to lack of central control. — Aix (talk) 01:47, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

MiszaBot

User:MiszaBot/config at the top of this page is a red link. That's a configuration file for an archiving bot. No point in importing the bot's configuration file unless you also import the bot. Good luck with importing all of Wikipedia's bots. There are 200 archives of old Wikipedia village pump discussions linked from the banners at the top of this page too. I don't see the point in mass-importing old talk page discussions. On the other hand you only imported the most recent edit for each article. The important articles should have their entire edit histories imported to give proper attribution. Anyone with administrator privileges can manually import page histories using Special:Import and that's probably better than a mass-import as you selectively import only the stuff you want to keep. With mass-imports junk is likely to linger for years. Nobody will have time to sort through all that stuff and delete the junk. – Just an editor (talk) 12:07, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

Noted as a future feature (PT #183871379). We don't need that until our own talk pages reach significant volume. Werkmeister (talk) 06:40, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Category:CS1 Serbian-language sources (sr)

Al Capone is populating Category:CS1 српски / srpski-language sources (sr). On English Wikipedia that biography populates Category:CS1 Serbian-language sources (sr) which is an empty category here on Justapedia. – Just an editor (talk) 13:47, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

At the moment, categories are not populated properly. We need to rewrite the relevant script for efficiency. — Werkmeister (talk) 16:33, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

LUA module info Suggestion

Ok - here is what I found: Module:Shortcut that contains some Lua code and gives you an idea of what we're dealing with in particular: here, and the number of pages affected by it. It is a huge issue on multiple templates, but since they are transcluded, would fixing the main template in turn fix the others? Just an editor, your thoughts? Justme (talk) 14:17, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

I have switched from WP to JP in the module code. @Justme: see if it does what you want. — Werkmeister (talk) 16:17, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Justapedia Rewrite Plugin

This Chrome plugin rewrites URLs: https://github.com/sjmulder/urlrewrite-chrome

Perhaps it would be good idea that someone fork it into Justapedia Chrome Extension? I currently have back problems, and I haven't used Git almost ever, but if no one else, I should do it.

Greetings to everyone!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Adamovicm (talkcontribs)

Reference errors

 – This is the correct venue. Justme 💬 📧 15:34, 22 December 2023 (AST)

I've decided to make an attempt at improving the Race and intelligence article, but I've run into a problem. Justapedia seems to not be recognizing several of the citation templates used there, such as {{cite journal}} and {{cite book}}, and this is creating reference errors. That'll need to be fixed before I can try to update the article. Could you please try to fix that issue in the near future? — Deva (talk) 20:09, 11 December 2023 (AST)

Deva, have you tried citer? It does all the work for you. All you have to do is enter the url, or DOI or USBN. Shahadat, please join us here with an update about our local citation templates. Justme 💬 📧 20:24, 11 December 2023 (AST)
Thanks for the link. That might be useful when adding new sources, but one of the things I'm trying to do is restore some of the well-sourced material that's been removed from this article over the past 3-4 years. Between that article and all the other intelligence related articles that have undergone these mass removals, there are around 100 sources that should eventually be restored, and it would require a huge amount of work to redo all of the citations using that tool. I would much prefer to be able to cite these sources using the same templates that were formerly used to cite these sources at Wikipedia, if you can find a way to make that possible. — Deva (talk) 20:38, 11 December 2023 (AST)
I looked into the issues to see what the problem might be, and what I'm seeing is malformed citations. I fixed this one. The red error messages in the refs section tell you what is needed. The main citation has to be styled correctly for the subsequent citations to work properly. Unfortunately, fixing those issues is time consuming. I will try to help youy this week, but I've got a really full plate for the next few days. Justme 💬 📧 20:55, 11 December 2023 (AST)
Okay, it seems the main problem actually was that Justapedia wasn't recognizing the "harv" tag. I've fixed the reference errors where that was the cause, but there are two sources (Neisser et al. 1996 and Jensen 1998) where the errors seems to be caused by something else. I'm not sure what to do about those, so I'd appreciate you taking a look at that issue when you're able to. — Deva (talk) 21:15, 11 December 2023 (AST)
@Deva: I'm Sorry, it took some time to check the modules and templates related to this error and finding the cause of the error. The journal references you used are not added to the whitelist of the Footnotes module on Justapedia! It can be added, but "Harv error: link from CITEREFWichertsDolanvan_der_Maas2009 doesn't point to any citation" error does not indicate the exact journal, page or other information. If you provide me with the necessary information on the structure of journal references, I can list those journals on the whitelist. Here's a sample of journal reference structures in this template. Thank you for bringing the error to our attention via this talk page. If you have any inquiries, please feel free to respond here.— Shahadat (talk) 06:35, 12 December 2023 (AST)
@Shahadat: All of the references that were generating errors include DOIs, so it should be easy to look up what journals they were published in. For the Neisser 1996 and Jensen 1998 sources, it shows the publisher information if you hover over the name of the source. The Neisser source is [1] and the Jensen source is [2]. If that information isn't enough, could you please explain more exactly what information you need? — Deva (talk) 07:44, 12 December 2023 (AST)
@Shahadat: I've fixed the problem with the Wicherts reference. The problem was that it listed the wrong year for that paper. Do you think you'll have time soon to address the other issues I mentioned? I was hoping to work on improving that article in the near future, but I'd like the reference errors for the Neisser and Jensen sources to be fixed before I do that. — Deva (talk) 08:13, 20 December 2023 (AST)
@Deva: I have already solved this problem in some other articles. There are currently two errors left in the article (Race_and_intelligence) you mentioned. I have to create some new templates. CITEREFNisbettAronsonBlairDickens2012a doesn't point to any citation and CITEREFWichertsDolanvan_der_Maas2009 doesn't point to any citation - Can you share any links to journals related to these two errors here? I am publishing separate templates for those two journals as soon as possible. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I am looking for it myself, but perhaps for some reason I could not find the two journals from here, so your cooperation is desirable.— Shahadat (talk) 14:58, 21 December 2023 (AST)
@Shahadat: The Nisbett et al. paper is [3] and the Wicherts paper is [4] (it actually was published in 2010, not 2009). As I said, though, those aren't the references that I see generating errors. The reference errors I'm looking to address are for the Neisser 1996, Jensen 1998 and Flynn 2009 sources. Do you know what's necessary to resolve those? — Deva (talk) 16:37, 21 December 2023 (AST)
@Deva: Two reference errors has been resolved. I hope you don't see the problem again. However, if you see any new problems, please ping me or keep a message. Thank you— Shahadat (talk) 08:42, 22 December 2023 (AST)
@Shahadat: If you look a the notes section, there are still several reference errors, including one at the bottom of the section that wasn't there before your recent edits. These are the errors I've been asking you about in my past several comments. Are you able to address those? — Deva (talk) 11:21, 22 December 2023 (AST)
While I truly appreciate being included in these discussions, the correct forum for these types of issues are at Help:Technical. Being this is my UTP, it gets archived which makes it highly unlikely that the discussion will ever be found again. I'm going to move it over to the correct venue. Please carry on over there.Justme 💬 📧 15:32, 22 December 2023 (AST)
@Shahadat: If this helps, the new error at the end of the "notes" section, which wasn't there before your recent edits, seems to have been introduced in this edit. I don't entirely understand what you're doing to try to address these errors, so I would rather not undo any of your changes, but please be aware that that particular change seems to have made the problem worse. — Deva (talk) 23:48, 22 December 2023 (AST)
@Deva:  Resolved, I have completely resolved the last error you wrote about. Please check it out now. — Shahadat (talk) 02:58, 23 December 2023 (AST)

Something odd is going on with the "what links here" feature...

I started a considerable fraction of the wikipedia's articles on fireboats.

Subsequently I wrote more articles on fireboats, not covered by the wikipedia. I started porting those articles here.

I thought Special:WhatLinksHere/Fireboat would be more help trying to figure out which fireboat articles weren't present here... But about half the fireboat articles here aren't showing up using Special:WhatLinksHere/Fireboat -- even though they contain an explicit wikilink to fireboat.

I think that is odd. — Geo Swan (talk) 00:10, 10 March 2024 (AST)

Geo Swan It could be an indexing or caching issue. You might want to try a null edit to refresh the links. Would you be able to share those articles here for review?— Shahadat (talk) 09:43, 26 September 2024 (AST)

File upload and description exists but file won't upload

I'm trying to add an image to White Buildings, namely File:WhiteBuildings.jpg which should have been brought over from Wikipedia with the rest of the article. When I try to upload the file, I get a dialog that the page already exists but doesn't have the file. When I try again to upload the file I get:

The file /tmp/localcopy_a28c17db90d8.jpg does not exist.

What went wrong here? Square Peg (talk) 20:03, 14 October 2024 (AST)

Square Peg, Thanks for bringing this up! I’ve looked into the issue, and it’s been resolved now. Please check it again.— Shahadat (talk) 21:39, 14 October 2024 (AST)

Only seven days of Recent Changes

When I change my "recent changes" preferences number of days, it tells me that I've successfully changed it but then resents back to 7 days of recent changes. Why? I've increased the number of edits, too, but I suspect those aren't showing up correctly, either. Square Peg (talk) 14:59, 20 October 2024 (AST)

Right now, my Recent Changes feed only shows the 50 most recent edits, all from today. I want to see the past thousand over the longest period of time. Square Peg (talk) 15:01, 20 October 2024 (AST)
I now see that the Recent Changes display obeys the filter menu on the right side of Special:RecentChanges but not the preferences as described above. Square Peg (talk) 17:59, 20 October 2024 (AST)
Hey, Square Peg, I'm pinging Shahadat to see if he can explain, and while he's here, I'm wondering what all the -0- (null) edits are about. My basic filters are set to 500 changes over the past 30 days, and the active filters are (Human not bot), Page edits, Page creations. Anything past 30 days is no longer "recent". Just thought of something else — how do we archive the old posts here? Factsfirst (talk) 19:15, 20 October 2024 (AST)
Square Peg, Factsfirst: I'm clarifying this for you. You may have noticed a filter of 500 edits in 30 days on the Recent changes page. It's possible that over 500 edits were made in just 7 days, which would cause older edits to no longer appear on the Recent changes page. If the total number of edits in the last 30 days was exactly 500, you would see 30 days' worth of edits. However, if 500 edits were made in a single day, you would only see that day's edits. In any case, the system displays the most recent 500 edits within a 30-day period. I'm also checking to ensure there are no other issues I may have overlooked. If you notice anything else, please email me with a screenshot. Thank you.— Shahadat (talk) 02:22, 21 October 2024 (AST)
