Christopher George Edgar OBE (born 21 April 1960) is a retired British and European diplomat who served as the British High Commissioner to the Republic of Fiji.[2]
Early life and education
Edgar is the son of Dr William Macreadie Edgar and Dr Freda Elizabeth Edgar.[3] He studied Philosophy at Trinity College, Cambridge and then completed a MA in Environment, Policy and Society at the Open University.[3]
Career
Edgar joined the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1981 and was posted to the British Embassy in Moscow. He has served as British Ambassador to Cambodia, Ambassador to Macedonia, Consul General in St Petersburg; and interim Ambassador to the Holy See.[3] He played a key role in Protocol Directorate in the FCO in relation to arrangements for the 2012 London Olympics.[4]
Edgar was appointed as the British Ambassador to Uzbekistan in August 2012.[3] In April 2015 the FCO announced that he would be replaced in autumn 2015 and would transfer to another Diplomatic Service appointment.[5] He was appointed to be the European Union's ambassador to Cambodia, and took up the post on 1 December 2015.[6]
