Description

Adam Stacey, on a tube train between King's Cross and Russell Square, London, 7 July 2005, during the 7 July 2005 London bombings.

Time magazine published the image in 2006 as part of a collage of London Underground bombing images at Best Photos of the Year 2005, image 20/24: "Eyewitnesses. In the London Underground, camera phones turned bombing survivors into photojournalists."

See Seward, Zachary (8 July 2005). "Phones Offer Snapshot Of Terror", Forbes: "Adam Stacey and Eliot Ward were trapped inside a packed London subway car for half an hour yesterday as the air around them filled with thick, black smoke. But when the train doors finally opened, the two survivors knew exactly what to do: snap a photograph. ... The resulting snapshot, captured on Ward's Sony Ericsson V800 mobile phone, quickly became an iconic portrait of the terrorist attacks that hit London yesterday."
