English: Charles Cochrane-Baillie, 2nd Baron Lamington, Governor of Queensland (1896-1901).
Charles Wallace Alexander Napier Cochrane-Baillie was born on 29 July 1860 in London. He was the only son of Alexander Cochrane-Baillie, 1st Baron Lamington. He was educated at Eaton and Christ Church, Oxford. In 1885 he became assistant private secretary to Lord Salisbury and in 1886 he entered parliament as the conservative member for North St. Pancras. He stepped down in 1890 when he succeeded to the title of Baron Lamington. An enthusiastic hunter and traveller, Lord Lamington made a notable journey from Siam (Thailand) to Tongking (North Vietnam) in 1890-91. In 1895 he was appointed Governor of Queensland, a post he held until 1901 when he returned to his Lanarkshire estate. He married Mary Hozier in 1895 and had one son and one daughter.
