Arcane Device is the stage and recording name of David Lee Myers (born 1949), a New York City-based experimental musician and electric guitarist.[1]

Career

In the 1960s, David Lee Myers played guitar in a rock band before focusing on the sonic possibilities of audio feedback. Robert Fripp's Frippertronics and Brian Eno soon influenced his feedback machine-based sonic work. Myers began working with this unique form of electronic music in 1980, building his own synthesizers and amplitude modulation circuitry, often releasing his own music on audio cassette. With the discovery of feedback music and the release of his first non-guitar feedback LPs in 1988, Myers established the performing name "Arcane Device" for himself and achieved some notoriety.[2] His composition from that year entitled Lathe was anthologized by Guy-Marc Hinant in An Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music #2. All of his cassettes are now rare.[3]

Arcane Device has collaborated with a variety of artists including Asmus Tietchens, Tod Dockstader, Marco Oppedisano, Joseph Nechvatal, Tom Dimuzio, Ellen Band, Dirk Serries, and Kim Cascone.
